Biography
Singing across oceans, languages, cultures and styles.
Mini Cat has always been thrilled by music!
Cat was always into music. “Growing up in Saint-Pierre & Miquelon, I didn’t have access to singing lessons, but I had many opportunities to sing with great Blues and Rock musicians - from Newfoundland and Paris - in my parents’ nightclub. That’s where I developed my ability to improvise and adapt like a cat, just going for it, always landing on my feet.”
Cat also has many lives, which have taken her to London and Paris, playing with as many musical styles as possible. Whether it be Funk with the Jam Professors, Pop-Rock originals with Surikat, Jazz with the Cat Bowring Quartet, Gospel with TF or the Sankofa Unit - harmonizing in the choir or vibing out as lead -, she’s always game for a challenge! She even created a board game to help others learn music.
On top of her first album with Surikat, Cat got to work on various jazz projects, with high class musicians such as Christian Gentet, Jacques Vidal, and John Betsch.
Now back in her place of birth St. John’s, Newfoundland, she has finally started singing in French, engaging the audience’s hands, feet, voices and hearts, thanks to the energy of Gypsy Jazz (Zaz, Minvielle, Piaf…). She also did a tribute to Aretha Franklin with a wonderful 9-piece band and has been doing shows with Women of Rock.
Look out for Cat’s many acts, including her duo with Joe Tucker, The Gypsies, a tribute to Aretha Franklin, Women of Rock, and many more!
“Cat has a wonderful stage presence and terrific interaction with her audience. And that voice!”
— Marian, Audience Member
— Anne, Spectatrice
“Cat Bowring is talented, down to earth and an extreme pleasure to work with!”
— Christian Gallant, Artistic Director
— Caroline, Spectatrice
“In her performance, she has an “honesty” about herself. You know that you're actually getting her, not something she's pretending to be.”
— Jon Shardlow, Guitarist
- Wendy Rose, Le Gaboteur
